At St. Paul’s, we love kids! We love their enthusiasm when singing praises to God, in their earnest prayer requests, their hunger to explore Bible stories, their desire to help the less fortunate, and their wide smiles when having fun!
Kingdom Kids – Sunday morningChildren’s Ministry kicks off on the 2nd Sunday of September and runs through the 3rd Sunday in June. Realizing that many children do not get the opportunity to worship on a consistent basis, we start at 9:30am with twenty minutes of kid-friendly worship where kids are actively involved. After worship, our kids split into three groups:
Precious Priests: Age 2 – Kindergarten
Faithful Friars: 1st – 4th grade
Merry Monks: 5th – 8th grade
Our Precious Priests will go to their own “Green Room” to further explore the Bible story with a variety of hands-on activities.
Our Faithful Friars will rotate to a different activity site each week, led by members of St. Paul’s.
- Castle Kitchen (snack making)
- Joyful Jesters (games and activities)
- Amazing Artisans (arts and crafts)
- Servant Quarters (service projects)
Our Merry Monks meet Sunday mornings in the Youth Room. Their activities are varied and could include:
- working on a long term service project
- preparing the Bible story skit
- exploring one of Jesis’ parables
- helping out in one of our Children’s Ministry classes
Children’s choirs are held Wednesday nights starting mid-September through April, providing wonderful opportunities for an “extra dose of music” in a spiritually nurturing environment. They help lead worship and sing during our 10:45am service approximately once a month. Both the Cherub Choir and Red Angels Choir are directed by Kris Fosbenner. If your child is interested in joining a children’s choir or you have a question about the choirs, please contact Mrs. Fosbenner at firstname.lastname@example.org. Children may join a choir any time during the year.
Cherub ChoirCherub Choir (age 4*-grade 2) rehearses Wednesday nights from 6:30 pm – 7 pm throughout the school year. In their rehearsals, Cherub Choir members work on developing singing skills while deepening their faith as they learn anthems, hymns, and liturgy. The half hour of rehearsal time buzzes with activity as singers move to music, play instruments, and enjoy musical games designed to strengthen musicianship. The Cherub Choir sings about eight times a year, usually at the 10:45 service.
*must be four years old by the beginning of the choir year.
Red Angels Choir
Red Angels Choir (grades 3-6) rehearses Wednesday nights from 7 pm-7:45 pm throughout the school year. These 45 minute rehearsals are packed with learning as choir members prepare anthems, liturgy, and hymns for services. Singers also work on developing vocal technique, following a conductor, and learning to read choral music. The anthems they learn provide a springboard for Christian education as texts are discussed and related to the lectionary or season of the church year. In addition to singing, Red Angels Choir members learn to play handbells during the weeks leading up to Christmas. Although this is a hard-working group, there is time for laughter and fun during their rehearsals. The Red Angels Choir sings about eight times a year, usually at the 10:45 service.
Children who sing regularly at an early age strengthen the musical foundation that is needed to succeed as a band, orchestra, and chorus member later on. And singing in a choir is fun!
Wednesday Knights is held on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of the month from mid-September through April, except during Lent. We start at 6pm with a pizza dinner. After dinner, kids rotate between children’s choirs with Mrs. Landis and “Knight Time” with Mrs. Henry, finishing with dessert at 7:45pm.
SPIFFY’S – St. Paul’s Intelligent Fun-Filled Youth!
This youth group is specifically designed for 4th through 6th graders. Fun, friendship-building activities are planned throughout the year from September through April. This is a great way to build friendships before Confirmation starts! YES!!! Friends are invited!
Let’s be honest…faith beings at home: dinner and bedtime prayers, reading the Bible together, commitment to church activities, serving together and shaping young moral values. It all starts at home! But we are aware that parents need help with this important job! The goal of our Children’s Ministry program is to not only provide faith developing activities for kids, but also for parents! We think it’s just as important to empower parents in their job as primary faith educators as it is to provide programs for kids!
Welcome to Children’s Ministry & My First Bible
Held mid-September, this open house event welcomes our newest preschool friends and their parents. Each child is given their own Spark Storybible to take home!
3rd Grade Bible Explorers
Each November, St. Paul’s presents a gift Spark NRSV Bible to 3rd graders. Prior to receiving their Bibles, our 3rd graders and their parents spend time with our Director of Education exploring all the cool features of the Bible, learning about its history and how to look up Bible verses. Children officially receive their Bibles on Christ the King Sunday in November.
Offered on three Sundays during Lent each year, this milestone event is for 3rd graders or older children who have not previously attended the class. Children learn about the first Passover and its relationship to the Last Supper that Jesus celebrates with his disciples for his death. Children received their 1st Communion on Maundy Thursday.
Prayer Make & Take
Held during Children’s Ministry on a Lenten Sunday each year, this fun event provides children and parents with an opportunity to explore different ways to pray.
Vacation Bible School
The Telford Community Vacation Bible School is one of the thriving partnerships between St. Paul’s Lutheran, Trinity UCC and Grace United Methodist churches all located on Main St. in Telford.. Held each summer in late July, early August for over 75 years, this fun-filled week is packed with singing, Bible storytelling, skits, science, crafts, games and snack time!
Summer Kids Time
Kids Time is offered during the 10:45am Sunday morning worship service from mid-June through Labor Day weekend. Children start in worship with their parents and are dismissed to Kids Time after the Prayer of the Day. They enjoy a summer-long theme that is filled with Bible story and simple activities. They return to worship for Communion. Kids Time is for children who have finished 2nd grade and younger.
Each month during Children’s Ministry, our kids are encouraged to bring in a special offering for a variety of service projects. We have held food drives for Keystone Opportunity Center, packed shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child, collected pajamas for Grace’s Closet, and raised money for the ELCA Malaria and World Hunger funds.
Mini Summer Work Camps
Held two times each summer, these 3-day work camps are for 4th – 8th graders. These campers spend the mornings volunteering at Zion Mennonite’s Table of Plenty, Keystone Opportunity Center, Telford Boro, and The Lutheran Community at Telford. Afternoons are spent at St. Paul’s helping out where needed.
