About St. Paul’s Youth Programs

St. Paul’s has a wide and diverse youth program.  The foundation of our program is our Christian Education hour on Sunday mornings.  Children in Kindergarten to the sixth grade enjoy inter-active learning in our newly revised curriculum.

Third grade children have a special bible class in the fall where they learn to look up verses and are presented with a gift bible from the church.  In the Spring Third graders receive their first communion instruction and come to the sacrament with their families on Maunde Thursday during Holy Week.

We also have a third through sixth grade youth group called the “SPIFFY’s”.  The name was created years ago when this young youth group began.  It is an acronym for “St. Pauls Intelligent Fun – Filled Youth”.  There you go.  This group has monthly activities from September to May.

Our Teenagers in the seventh, eighth and ninth grades learn about Lutheran Theology in our Wednesday evening Confirmation class.(click here for Confirmation Schedule)  But there are fun events too!  Depending on the makeup and interest of the group there are weekly gatherings in the youth room and every year there are monthly events – balancing “fun” with “community service”.  Ninth graders receive the Rite of Confirmation on Pentecost Sunday (spring).

2011-12 Confirmation class for all 7th, 8th and 9th graders begins on Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at 6:45 to 7:30 p.m. in the fellowship hall.

Future Confirmation events:

–Confirmation Retreat at Bear Creek Camp, November 18 – 20, 2011.  Cost:  $36.  Permission slip required.  Scholarships available.  Write on permission slip ‘request scholarship’.

Ninth through twelfth graders are encouraged to participate in the life of the church and take as much responsibility as they are able.   Some Senior High students are Sunday School teachers, some serve as ushers and members of various committees,  while others participate in community service and outreach projects with adults and young adults.  There are also occasional special programs and retreats for the older teens.
