Rev. Dr. Shirley S Guider
Pastor Shirley Guider began serving as the Senior Pastor at St. Paul’s the first Sunday in Advent 2016. Ordained in 1993 she served as pastor to two congregations (St. Andrew’s and St. John’s Ridge Valley) from 1993-2008. While studying for her PhD, she completed the training as an intentional interim and has served as an interim or bridge pastor from 2008 to 2016. She was awarded her PhD in Theology and the Practice of Ministry with a concentration in pastoral theology in 2014. Before being ordained Pastor Guider worked as an RN first in oncology, then ICU. After completing her MSN at Yale University she worked at the Hospital University of Pennsylvania in behavioral health focusing on geriatric psychiatry. She had taught as an adjunct both as a nurse and as a pastor.
Pastor Shirley was born in Tokyo Japan (her father spent 30 years in the Air Force) and has lived in many places throughout her life. After completing college she was commissioned in the Air Force as a 2nd Lieutenant serving both active duty and in the National Guard. Pastor Shirley and her husband Steve met doing theatre with the Laymen Playmen and have been married for more than 20 years. Steve’s daughter and her husband have recently moved back to Pennsylvania which means that they are able to see their granddaughters Libby and Ellie more often.
